Acrobat Compares Between WordPerfect & Word?

Applies to: Word 2003

Adobe Acrobat does comparisons? Yes, actually, it does! And if you're converting documents from WordPerfect into Word, you just might accelerate your QA process!

Technology Requirements:

  • Adobe Acrobat 6
  • WordPerfect 9, 10 or 11
  • Microsoft Word, 2003 or prior

Steps:

  1. Use WordPerfect's built-in "Publish to PDF" feature to create a PDF rendition of your original WordPerfect document.
  2. Convert your WordPerfect document into Word.
  3. Cleanup your resulting Word document, applying outline numbering and resolving cross references. Expected cleanup time: 1 hour/10 pages.
  4. When done, File | Print your reconstructed Word file to "Adobe PDF".
  5. Launch Acrobat 6, choosing Document | Compare Documents. Choose the PDF file generated from WordPerfect as your original, and the PDF file generated from Word as your result. For a first-pass QA test, choose the following options:
    • Type of Comparison: Textual Differences, uncheck "Include font information"
    • Compare Report Type: Consolidated Report
  6. When Acrobat is done, changes in content will be marked by a yellow triangular flag. These comments can be exported back into Word, or summarized into a separate PDF.
