How to Modify the Indent on Bulleted Lists

Applies to: Word 2003, Word 2007

Word 2007

  1. On the Home Ribbon, Styles group, click on the dialogue launcher to bring up Styles Task Pane (Alt+Ctrl+Shift+S) (Figure 1).
  2. Scroll down the list until you find the built-in style, List Bullet (Figure 2).
  3. Click on the drop-down, select "Modify."
  4. Click on | Modify | Format | Paragraph.
  5. Adjust the bullet indent by modifying "Left indentation" (Figure 3).
  6. Adjust the text indent by modifying the "Hanging" setting under "Special".
  7. Click OK, then OK again. The List Bullet style in this document has been modified.

Word 2003

  1. Click on the Styles and Formatting button or select "Format-->Styles & Formatting" for the task pane to appear.
  2. Scroll down the list until you find the built-in style, List Bullet (Figure 4).
  3. Click on the drop-down, select "Modify."
  4. Click on | Modify | Format | Paragraph.
  5. Adjust the bullet indent by modifying "Left indentation" (Figure 5).
  6. Adjust the text indent by modifying the "Hanging" setting under "Special".
  7. Click OK, then OK again. The List Bullet style in this document has been modified.
