Remember when our former word processing applications let us align text relatively to the page margin? We could easily align text to the left, right and center, all on one line without the need to construct a table. When page margins or orientation changed, these relative tab stops shifted in like kind. This capability returns in Word 2007 as the new "Alignment Tab."

To insert an Alignment Tab in a Header or Footer:
-
Double-click into the Header or Footer.
- In the Position group, choose Insert Alignment Tab.
- Click to set your Alignment position – Left, Center or Right
- Drop-down the Align relative to: list, and choose Margin.
-
Click OK.
- Repeat for each alignment tab you need, then enter your text as shown below.
- To set Alignment tabs as part of your Header or Footer style, right click Update Header/Footer to Match Selection.
Hint: If you'd like to use the new Alignment tab in other parts of your document, right-click on Insert Alignment Tab in the Ribbon, then Add to the Quick Access Toolbar.
- Close Header and Footer to return to the main body of the document. You can now insert alignment tabs from the Quick Access Toolbar, anywhere in the document.
