Use Microsystems Ribbon Designer to "Take Your Ribbon Home"

Applies to: Word 2007, DocXtools v6

If you're busy defining your Word 2007 environment, you may have considered the creation of a custom "Firm Home" ribbon. On this ribbon, you might add commonly-used documents, features of native Word, along with functionality from other add-in products like DocXtools v6. If you create such a ribbon with the Microsystems Ribbon Designer, by default this tab appears at the location just right of your last application add-in.

Admin Utility

What you really want is for this tab to come before native Word's "Home" Ribbon. That way, as your users move between Ribbons, your custom "Firm Home" Ribbon is the default landing location.

Here are the steps, assuming you have already created your "Firm Home Ribbon" (see the Administrator Guide for details.):

  1. Exit Word.
  2. Launch the SDS Administrator Utility, located in C:\Program Files\Microsystems\SDS. Simply double-click on SDSAdministrator.exe.
  3. Navigate to the User Profile folder, and expand the Microsystems Launch group by clicking on the plus sign ("+").
  4. Navigate to your custom "Firm Home" ribbon, and right-click. Choose Edit Attributes; the dialogue below will display.
  5. Click in the checkbox for insertBeforeMso to enable it. In its adjacent field, enter TabHome (this is case-sensitive). Your completed dialogue should now appear as follows:

  6. Word Styles and Formatting
Exit the Edit Attributes dialogue by clicking on the door icon at the lower-right corner of the dialogue.

  7. Save these settings by clicking on the triple-disk icon at the lower-right corner of the dialogue.

  8. Launch Word, and watch as your custom "Firm Home" now becomes the default "Home" tab as shown below.

NOTE: To enable this configuration for all users on the machine, you will want to copy the MicrosystemsSDSPane.xml file from your user profiled location to the C:\Program Files\Microsystems\SDS folder. If you want to deploy this change, consult the Administrator Utility Help file for full details or contact us at .
