Office 2007 applications include a new chart engine that offers dramatically enhanced and expanded charting capabilities. Now you can choose from a gallery of chart styles; add drop shadow effects, glows and more; and customize chart elements in many different ways.
NOTE: You will not be able to see the contextual Chart Tools on the Ribbon if you are working in Compatibility mode. If working in Compatibility mode, the following will appear inside your document after Insert > Chart is selected.
You will also notice that the Ribbon is replaced by the Charting Toolbar.
When you create a chart, Word launches Excel for your data entry, then adds the contextual Chart Tools to the Ribbon, offering three tabs with different sets of tools for different types of tasks- design, layout & format.
Design tab: Change the chart type;work with chart data; select a chart layout & choose the style and color of the chart you want to create.

Layout tab: Focus in on specific chart elements. Add pictures, shapes & more; add & format labels; modify the axes in the chart; add color, pictures or 3-D effects to the background; insert elements like trend lines, markers and more.
Format tab: Enhance the look of a chart by choosing the size of shapes on the chart; add shadows, fills & outlines; change the chart size; select text wrapping & positioning options.
